Meridian Ops: a free practice app for web automation testing
Meridian Ops is the staff console of a made-up kitchenware company. It is built to be tested: real forms, tables, dialogs, frames, uploads and downloads, plus a page of deliberate traps. It is free, needs no sign-up, and works with any browser automation tool.
It is the practice app for the PlayForge Playwright course, and anyone is welcome to use it.
What you can practise
- Dashboard: figures that load late, an activity feed, stock alerts and an action queue. Good for waiting on content without fixed sleeps.
- Orders: a filterable, paginated order book with row actions, an edit dialog, a delete confirmation and bulk actions.
- Catalog: product cards, search and a stock ledger.
- Fulfilment: a multi-step form with validation and file uploads.
- Exports: a real CSV download and a link that opens in a new tab.
- Embeds: a single iframe, nested iframes, and open, closed and slotted shadow roots.
- API lab: the app's own API, to call directly or to intercept from a test.
- Sign in: a manager and a clerk account.
- Trap room: elements that look clickable and are not, a toast that disappears, an invisible overlay, a moving target and more.
Options in the address
Add these to any page's address. They carry over as you move between pages.
seed=42: the same generated data every time, so your assertions stay stable.mock=static: the API is answered from plain JSON files, so your test's network interception sees every request. Use this when you intercept or mock the network.mock=live&run=your-name-123: orders are saved on a real server, so a change made in one browser can be checked from another or through the API. Eachrunis private to whoever uses it, holds up to 200 orders, and is cleared after 24 hours.latency=800: slows every API answer by that many milliseconds (default mock only).flake=0.2: makes about that share of API calls fail with a 503, to practise retries (default mock only).
Without mock, a service worker inside the browser answers the API.
